When I was 12 years old my mother and I enrolled in a black and white photography class together. I cannot remember how this came to be or what propelled both of us to do so. What I do remember is that when I began looking through the lens of the camera something shifted for me. Everyday objects and events suddenly revealed new and different layers of relational meaning. I had been given a new way to see.
