I typically photograph my paintings prior to putting a finishing coat/glaze over them. In my current stage as a painter (for about the last 4 years) I use a lot of layers of transparent color glazes to build images. (heavy body acrylics mixed with a high gloss glaze and water.) Paintings can be tricky to photograph and my desire is to get the most accurate representation of the image. Many of my paintings are created with the intention of the image shifting, changing and playing with the light as it moves through its day, so getting one “true” photograph in some ways is just not possible...or, as I realized last night, the pictures are all accurate if I have done my job properly and the painting is dancing with the ever changing light.
